The Mires Home can be found as a one room home on the 1887 map of Madison. The home was acquired by Jill’s grandmother and grandfather on October 10, 1931. The home had additional rooms built on over the years with her grandparents adding indoor plumbing and several bedrooms. Jill and Theron purchased the home in 1992 and have also made additions and have worked to restore and renovate with the most recent kitchen update.
The home retains many of the original features including woodwork, trim, and mantle. There are several family heirlooms from the Goebel Family, the Short Family, and the Schoenstein Family-of the Schoenstein Bakery that was located on Walnut Street. The Mires family loves antiquing and finding head vases and pyrex to add to their collections.
This family loves their hometown, along with all of its festivals and its art. You will see art throughout the home by local artists Eric Phagan and Jill’s late brother in law, Larry Rudolech. They are also very excited to share their Christmas decorations with you. They were designed and made by local artist and teacher Aaron Kelsey.
Come enjoy this charming little family home that will definitely get you into the Christmas spirit.
