The Shotgun style house at 836 West Main Street was built by local carpenter Edward Gorman Lewis in 1870. The home was purchased in 2019 by South Central Ohio residents Larry and Shari Bellar. Larry and Shari have visited Madison for years and love the beautiful architecture, riverfront, festivals, music, wineries, restaurants, shops, and the wonderful warmness and quaintness of the community. They had always dreamed of having a “play house” in Madison and was able to purchase the house from a family that owned the house for nearly 100 years. The house retains many of the original features including the fireplaces, mantles, woodwork, and trim. The Bellar’s have updated the kitchen and preserved the remaining part of the house. The home is furnished with antiques, framed artwork, and a variety of personal interest items collected through the years. It is an eclectic mix of items, from pieces of the wonderful rich history of Madison, to Victorian era items, to some you could say….are a little quirky! The Bellar’s have turned the backyard into a butterfly garden, along with a variety of perennial flowers, and just recently added an outdoor pergola. The Bellar’s enjoy spending their time in Madison mostly outside whether it’s in the backyard, walking the beautiful neighborhoods, visiting the local businesses to meeting more of the wonderful community.
