Early History:
The frame shot gun house was built for George Washington McKinney and his wife Sarah Susannah Holsclaw McKinney. Tax records indicate the construction date is around 1856.George was from Woodford KY and Sarah was from Madison. George was married three times due the deaths of his wives, with these three wives he had two daughters and a son. George was a shoemaker and early on ran his shoe shop out of this house. The house remained in the same family for nearly 50 years.
Several renovations have taken place over the years including all new flooring and light fixtures. It is believed that the present-day porch was a later addition to the original structure. Through renovations some interesting construction techniques were discovered as well.
The current owner of the home, Tracy McCrocklin, purchased the home in 2021 having had fallen in love with the quaintness of Madison. Inside you will find historical pictures of Madison accompanied by antiques and artwork by local artists.
The home had already been in use as an Airbnb at the time of purchase in 2021. Tracy now uses the home as a secondary residence and an Airbnb. Tracy has put her own French country twist on this charming shot gun home and loves spending time here with friends and family. Being a part of the historic district, this home may come with some spooky stories that may be heard on the tour.
